CHELSEA TOWNHOUSE* | NEW YORK, NY

Second floor interior (rendering)

This stately townhouse sits on a beautiful Chelsea street steps away from the High Line on New York City’s west side. After years of being partially vacant, the design team* worked with the owners to renovate the garden duplex unit and three full-floor apartments into three rental units and an owner-occupied penthouse unit. Per the owners’ wishes to renovate the building on a relatively modest budget, a large portion of funds was allocated to plumbing, electrical and Landmarks approved windows which were all or almost fully replaced.

On the interior, the firm maintained many of the original details to keep the heart of the building alive, while developing a scope of new interior finish work that would be durable and price conscious. The last phase was to design a roof deck accessed by the owner's penthouse apartment.

Six months to a year after the major renovation was completed the clients came to the team* requesting a design for a rooftop deck. With its breathtaking views of Chelsea and the High Line a minimal deck, floating above the roof membrane, made of composite deck material was designed; with integrated seating, storage, and planter boxes.
